The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow coming in tonight around 7pm. Could bring 24 inches to the higher areas of South Lake Tahoe.

These pictures were taken 12.17.08 and show the current snow making at the bottom of the Stagecoach Lift on the Nevada side of Heavenly Mountain Resort. I think things will be ready so Stage can open on Friday 12.19.08.

I am waking up this morning to a heavy machinery sound that can only mean one thing in my area... Heavenly Mountain Resort is making snow on the lower part of the Stagecoach Run. Never thought I would be excited to hear this sound, but given the current snow conditions I will take anything at this point.

Are they planning to open Stage this weekend? I will update with pictures when the sun comes up and I can see exactly where they are working.

These are pictures taken on the morning of 12.16.08 of the Stagecoach Lift (the vertical cut going to the top of the hill in the trees is the lift) and Stagecoach Run (horizontal cut in the trees) on the Nevada side of Heavenly. If you look closely you can see what seems to be smoke coming off of the hill. This is where Heavenly is currently making snow. This area is roughly the middle of the run so we can only hope they will continue to work all their way to the bottom over the next couple of days so they can open the Stagecoach Lift.

Snow has been falling all day. Next to the Stagecoach Lift at Heavenly Mountain Resort we have at least 18" of snow. In addition to the new snow, I believe I heard the snow making guns creating snow about half way up the Stagecoach Run earlier today. I hope Heavenly is working to open the Nevada (Heavenly North) side of the mountain, but it will take a few more storms or some heavy snow making. These pictures of the very bottom section of the Stagecoach Run were taken the morning of 12.16.08

I live at +/- 7000 feet of elevation next to the Boulder Lodge and Lift and Stagecoach Lodge and Lift at Heavenly Mountain Resort. We woke up to about a half of a inch of snow this morning. Form my couch it looks like the Stagecoach Run has at least an inch at the top. More snow is on the way Monday night with predictions of 6-10 inches at the higher elevations.

First snow in South Lake Tahoe / Heavenly North arrived this morning. I attached a couple of pictures showing the new snow on the Stagecoach Run at Heavenly Mountain Resort. The second picture is the top of the Stagecoach Lift. Additional new snow will come today and tomorrow. At the bottom of the page I have included information about a Ski Lease opportunity.

A Ski Lease in the South Lake Tahoe area refers to a lease of a ski condo/cabin/house for 3-6 months during the winter season. Often, groups from work or school will be created to split the costs of a Ski Lease. These groups will create rental usage rules, who gets what bedroom/bathroom and how to deal with guests etc... Ski Leases usually start in November and end in late April. Now is the time to put your group together and secure your Ski Lease.

South Lake Tahoe Housing is a very important decision and here are some tips:

State Tax- The South Lake Tahoe Area (and Heavenly Mountain Resort) are located in California and Nevada. Nevada does not have a State Tax and California does. If you live in Nevada and work in Nevada you do not have to pay California State Tax. If you live in Nevada and work in California you owe California State Tax. And if you live in California and work in Nevada you owe California State Tax. Best scenario is to live and work in Nevada. (Obviously, verify this info with your Tax Professional).

Businesses get tons of applications from people who swear they are moving here and will be ready to fill positions. But guess what... many people have things come up and never make it. A face to face meeting with an employer instead of a long distance call seems to carry more weight. If you can get yourself here try and meet with the person in charge of hiring and while you are here try and view a few housing options.
